Sound Measurements and Sound Limiters for Music Events according to VLAREM

When organizing music events in a public venue, it is important to manage sound levels properly to comply with VLAREM regulations. For events with a maximum sound level of ≤ 85 dB(A) LAeq,15min, the organizer is not required to measure. However, if you want to measure, you can use a sound level meter that measures either LAmax, slow or LAeq,15min. The key difference? LAmax, slow is the standard function of most meters, but to measure the equivalent sound level (LAeq), you need an integrating sound level meter, which is more expensive.

If you want to obtain a permit for playing louder music at a special event, you need a meter that can measure LAeq,15min or use a sound limiter, which can also be rented.

For music events with a sound level of > 85 dB(A) LAeq,15min and ≤ 95 dB(A) LAeq,15min, you must continuously measure LAeq,15min at your own cost according to VLAREM. A sound limiter can also be used as an alternative to a sound level meter.

If the sound level of the event exceeds 95 dB(A) LAeq,15min, you are required to continuously measure both LAeq,15min and LAeq,60min and register LAeq,60min. A sound limiter can also be used as an alternative here. Note: Music events with a sound level > 100 dB(A) LAeq,60min are prohibited.

Sound management is essential to ensure that your event complies with regulations and prevents disturbance to the surrounding area.

Sound level meter

The dBmeter sound level meter is a device that displays and records noise levels in real time. It boasts a large two-colour screen that shows the noise level of the place where different jobs are taking place. If the numbers on the display are green, it means that the atmosphere has a better level of acoustic comfort; but if they appear in red, it means that the room is noisy and uncomfortable.

All sound activity is registered in its internal memory and can be sent via a telematic system with full connectivity (4G, WiFi, Ethernet, etc.)

The dBmeter sound recorder can emit an alarm to warn when the permitted decibels are being exceeded and, therefore, when the sound environment is noisier. What’s more, as it has smart features, it controls the switching on and off of external devices, for example, to control music or lighting. geef nederlands en frans
