What is a Speakon cable?
A Speakon cable is designed to carry high-power audio signals from an amplifier to a loudspeaker. Unlike jack or XLR cables, Speakon connectors are made for secure, high-current connections and feature a twist-lock mechanism that prevents accidental unplugging – perfect for live setups, PA systems, and touring gear.
Speakon is a patented connector type developed by Neutrik, and has become the industry standard for speaker connections in professional audio.
Types of Speakon cables
✅ 2-pole Speakon (NL2FX)
Basic amp-to-speaker connection
Ideal for mono setups
✅ 4-pole Speakon (NL4FX)
Most common in modern sound systems
Supports bi-amping or dual channel connections
✅ Speakon to Jack or XLR
Useful for compatibility with legacy equipment
✅ Combined Power + Signal cables
Often used with active speakers (e.g. PowerCON + signal cable in one)
What to consider?
Cable thickness (AWG): lower AWG = thicker cable, essential for power and long runs
Connector quality: choose original Neutrik for reliability
Length: the shorter, the better for power transfer
Flexibility & durability: crucial for live and rental environments
